Dr George Stylian

Osteopath, ND, DBM – Herbalist and Naturopath

I have been using herbs since I was about 10 years old when I lived with my grandparents.

My interest in the medicinal properties of plants was what I wanted to first study in my 20s, but I ended up studying Naturopathy and Osteopathy at British College of Osteopathy and Naturopathy in London in the mid-1970s. I continued studying and using herbs until I got a chance to complete my diploma in herbal medicine in 1995.

Traditional Roots, Modern Practices:

Herbal medicine in Australia today is based on traditional and scientific disciplines, becoming more specific in treating the individual rather than the disease. With influences from European, American Indian, Indian, and Chinese herbal traditions, the field has evolved to embrace a diverse range of herbal remedies.

Tailored Treatment:

A modern herbal practitioner takes a detailed medical history and performs a physical examination to formulate herbal prescriptions tailored to the individual's needs. By combining traditional knowledge with scientific evidence, herbalists ensure safe and effective treatment with minimal side effects.

Personalised Care:

I believe in treating the person as well as the condition, focusing on the individual's vitality, needs, and expectations. My treatment programs are based on the patient's present physiological status, history, and examination findings, often addressing problems in stages to avoid adverse reactions.

Bach Flower Remedies:

Dr. Edward Bach discovered the Bach Flower remedies in the 1930s, aiming to address disharmonies between the heart and spirit that lead to illness. Divided into seven groups, the remedies target various emotional states to restore inner balance and vitality.

The 7 groups are:

  • For Fear

  • For Uncertainty

  • For Insufficient Interest in Present Circumstances

  • For Loneliness

  • For those Oversensitive to Influences and Ideas

  • For Despondency or Despair

  • For Over Care for Welfare of Others

Holistic Healing:

Dr. Bach believed in treating the mind and spirit to promote overall well-being, emphasising the importance of inner peace and resilience. The remedies help individuals reconnect with their inner guidance and protect against external influences.

Following Dr. Bach's philosophy, each person's life path should be followed in freedom, with compassion for others and respect for individual differences. By embracing our inner strength and peace, we can lead fulfilling lives and contribute positively to the world.

Naturopathy:

Qualified as a Naturopath in 1980, I embrace the principles of Nature Cure, focusing on the body's innate ability to heal and prevent disease using natural laws.

Naturopathy encompasses clean water, clean air, healing diets, exercise, and relaxation as foundational elements of treatment. By harnessing the healing properties of nature, we can support holistic well-being.

In today's world, the purity of air, water, and food has diminished, but the principles of Naturopathy remain timeless. Reconnecting with nature revitalises our minds and bodies, promoting vitality and balance.

Today, I integrate Naturopathy with other disciplines such as herbal medicine, Bach Flower remedies, osteopathy, and nutritional supplementation to provide personalised and holistic care.
